Why did you choose to attend Tulane?
My decision to attend Tulane WSPH was solely based upon the sole factor the school was in the heart of New Orleans. During my undergrad at Xavier, I fell in love with the culture of New Orleans but more importantly the community's resilience. I knew I wanted to further contribute to strengthening the New Orleans community and addressing the health inequity and inequality so Tulane WSPH became my next step. As a MPH Maternal and Child Health student, I have been able to pursue my passion in policy, grassroots work, and community outreach to continue the advancement of New Orleans.
What's your dream job?
I aspire to use my public health background in maternal and child health, to become a nurse-midwife and open up my own birthing center. By opening my own birthing center, I aim to address the rising Black maternal and infant morality and morbidity rates here in the US.
What advice would you give someone thinking about getting a degree in public health?
My advice for anyone thinking about getting a degree in public health would be to remember:
- Public health is so broad and filled with various possibilities for careers. Get creative in how you want to use your degree and how you want to impact society.
- Broaden your skill set by gaining certificates, research experience, or even participating community outreach.
Any hobbies, interests, etc. outside of public health?
- I love to find new restaurants!
- Love a good documentary or podcast!
What is the best thing about being a student at Tulane thus far?
The best thing about being a student at WSPH thus far, would be meeting other ambitious students who are dedicated to the betterment of New Orleans and society as a whole.
