Student Ambassador: Kaya Black

Kaya Black Headshot

Why did you choose to attend Tulane?

I wanted to join a program that is well known for their opportunities so I felt that Tulane would be a great fit for me. I also favored the location of the campus, and how helpful the recruitment team was when applying.

Why are you interested in volunteering as a student ambassador?

I want to help other students get comfortable within their new environment. Starting a master's program can be intimidating initially; however, it makes the process less stressful when someone is there to give guidance. I want to provide a safe space for students to express how they feel and give them encouragement to continue on their path.

What's your dream job?

My dream job is to become a researcher that creates global impact with my work and later become a physician.

What advice would you give someone thinking about getting a degree in public health?

If someone is thinking about pursuing public health, make sure to keep your knowledge fresh from what you learn from foundational courses because these are going to be needed in real-life scenarios/experiences.

Any hobbies, interests, etc. outside of public health?

I enjoy going to events around the New Orleans area like the Saints and Pelicans games. I also like doing sports activities for fun like basketball, volleyball, pickle ball, and more. I am always listening to music, so my favorite genre is RnB.

What is the best thing about being a student at Tulane thus far?

The professors are very understanding when dealing with concerns and will implement them into the classroom setting. At times, as students we become overwhelmed so it is nice to know that we have professors that care about our well-being.
