Developed in response to growing workforce challenges facing public health agencies, the Celia Scott Weatherhead Public Health Workforce Academy offers an accessible pathway for those currently serving Louisiana communities to gain needed skills. The program combines the school’s Graduate Certificate in Public Health with added workshops, networking opportunities, and comprehensive support.
The Certificate in Public Health consists of five graduate-level courses aligned with national public health standards. Academy participants who complete the certificate are encouraged to apply to complete the full Master of Public Health program in one of seven concentration areas.

Modality: The program is designed for working professionals and is therefore delivered primarily online so that participants can balance coursework with professional responsibilities. Participants, however, are also welcome to take in-person classes at regularly scheduled times at our downtown New Orleans campus.
Program Length: The program may be completed in one year, depending on student’s desired course pacing.
Program Benefits:
- Orientation to refresh academic skills
- Peer accountability pods
- Weekly engagement (including email briefs, office hours, and peer check-ins)
- Monthly check-ins with group problem-solving and progress tracking
- Quarterly guest speakers
- Twice-yearly workshops on practical competencies plus an annual Public Health Workforce Symposium
