Why did you choose to attend Tulane SPHTM?
I selected Tulane for its reputation of excellence and several professors who had expertise in my area of research.
Why are you interested in volunteering as an SPHTM Student Ambassador?
I like meeting other students and being of service. When I was accepted at Tulane, I spoke with an ambassador and this took off some of the unknown and stress I had about moving to New Orleans. I thought this was a good program and wanted to pay it forward.
What's your dream job?
I would like to be a professor in population science.
What advice would you give someone thinking about getting a degree in public health?
If someone is passionate about a topic in public health, there are several benefits of having a master’s, PhD, or DrPH. A graduate degree is a way for people to expand their knowledge, specialize in one particular area, and a graduate degree will broaden career options. I think it is important particularly for PhD and DrPH students carefully consider their intended topic of study and find a professor who specializes in this area. Although at the beginning two or four years sounds like a long time, my experience is that the time has gone by quickly and you will share your experience with classmates who can offer support throughout the process.
Any hobbies, interests, etc. outside of public health?
I enjoy exercising and reading.
What is the best thing about being a student at SPHTM thus far?
I am grateful for the mentorship I’ve received from my PhD advisor. It has been so nice to feel supported. I've also enjoyed doing research.
