Why did you choose to attend Tulane SPHTM?
Tulane University is in the city of New Orleans. The diverse culture in this city and the fact that Tulane University imbibes this cultural diversity in its values is one I loved and considered most. Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (SPHTM) offers one of the best programs in public health Epidemiology, which aligns with my interest as well. Choosing the right school is a step further in my ambitions to contribute to public health and Tulane SPHTM was a perfect fit.
Why are you interested in volunteering as an SPHTM Student Ambassador?
As a student ambassador for SPHTM, I will get to interact with other potential students who may need help in deciding on pursuing graduate studies. Having been in such a situation before, I totally understand how it feels to need information from other students with no one to talk to. It's a step closer to also exchanging ideas and offering solutions to potential students.
What's your dream job?
My dream job has always been an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon but I realized after practicing dentistry for a while that so many of the infectious diseases reported needed public health approaches rather than the clinical or curative approaches employed in my country. There's more to be done in the communities than there is to do in the clinics to prevent and treat these diseases.
What advice would you give someone thinking about getting a degree in public health?
A public health degree has and will always be one of the highly appreciated and employable degrees one could pursue. The field has so much to offer humanity and to satisfy personal aspirations.
Any hobbies, interests, etc. outside of public health?
I like being with my family, watching basketball games, watching movies, talking to friends and traveling for sightseeing.
What is the best thing about being a student at SPHTM thus far?
The faculty, staff and students are so friendly, professional and helpful. The environment is quite enabling for academic activities.
