Why did you choose to attend Tulane SPHTM?
I am from New Orleans and wanted to ensure my impact on public health started in my hometown. So much about this city has influenced my decision to pursue this degree. I am interested in becoming a certified health education specialist, and Tulane SPHTM offers Health Education and Communication as a program. I am a part of its last cohort before it becomes a certificate. I was also happy to know that along with preparing to take the CHES exam, I could also enroll in a certificate program to tailor my electives to my interest which could include taking courses outside of the SPHTM. Tulane felt like the best option for me to become well-rounded in Public Health within the short time frame of two years.
Why are you interested in volunteering as an SPHTM Student Ambassador?
Everyone has a different journey to public health which can be influential. I majored in business administration and graduated from undergrad in 2015. My path here has not been linear. A prospective student may be able to relate to that.
What's your dream job?
I want to become a health education specialist focusing on how stress and trauma impact mental health, which can lead to the development of chronic illness.
What advice would you give someone thinking about getting a degree in public health?
Ask yourself what it is that you REALLY want to do and if public health is an avenue for that, go for it.
Any hobbies, interests, etc. outside of public health?
A few of my hobbies are binging A Different World, listening to my growing vinyl collection, and caring for my plant. I'm interested in learning to play the piano and learning to paint.
What is the best thing about being a student at SPHTM thus far?
There is always an event going on with many opportunities to get involved and meet new people.
