Biography

Elisabeth Gleckler had an early career in advertising as an art director. She has served as a Peace Corps volunteer and subsequently in several health communications training projects in Central America. She worked as a communications team member and researcher in HIV, STD, tobacco control, injury prevention, cancer screening, disability, and other topics for the Louisiana Office of Public Health (LA-OPH). She was instrumental in the development of the LA-OPH website, community health promotional parish health profiles and overall agency marketing, later modeled across other state agencies. She worked in HIV/AIDS educational evaluation, developing an online system that was adapted nation-wide. She conducted research in male teen empowerment, Katrina evacuations, perceptions of risk in second hand smoke, West Nile Virus, and other topics. She received her Doctorate in Public Health from Tulane University, a MBA from University of New Orleans, and taught at University of New Orleans and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. As a professor, her combination of practitioner and academia provides students a diverse perspective of the field. She is uses her applied experience and academia to teach public health theory through application. Her goal is that every class she teaches provides students skills that can be used in their careers in public health professions, as well as possible utilization in other disciplines.
