Bachelor of Science in Health Policy and Management Degree

The Bachelor of Science in Health Policy and Management degree equips students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to work effectively in healthcare organizations, policy environments, and related sectors. 

The interdisciplinary program blends health policy, data analytics, management, and public health principles to prepare graduates for careers focused on improving healthcare delivery, policy implementation, and organizational operations.

Degree Requirements & Competencies

Students must fulfill the Newcomb–Tulane core curriculum requirements and the HPMU major requirements.

BS in Health Policy and Management – Core Competencies

  • Explain the structure, financing, and regulation of U.S. healthcare system.
  • Analyze health policy impacts on access, cost, and quality of care.
  • Apply basic management and operational principles to support healthcare organizations.
  • Interpret health data using foundational analytics tools for decision-making.
  • Demonstrate ethical reasoning and cultural competence in healthcare contexts.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders through written, oral, and digital formats.

Health Policy and Management Major Requirements

The HMPU major requires a total of 57-61 credits, consisting of the core (45 credits), a capstone (3-7 credits), and electives (9 credits). 

Students are eligible to complete their capstone during their last three semesters as an undergraduate and with a majority of their other program requirements completed. The capstone is a student-driven academic and/or professional experience. Learn more about capstone options here.

  • Students may not double major in any two Undergraduate Public Health Studies majors. 
  • Health Policy and Management majors may not minor in Public Health.
