Minor in Public Health Healthcare Administration

The Minor in Public Health Healthcare Administration is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills that will prepare them for the rigorous and interdisciplinary healthcare environment. The curriculum is designed to educate students in advanced topics in healthcare while preparing them with the basic skills necessary to enter the field or further their studies in graduate school. The minor is open to all Newcomb-Tulane College students and is intended to be paired with majors to emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of healthcare.

Requirements

The Healthcare Administration Minor requires a minimum of 18 credits in undergraduate courses. Students take 5 required courses and 1 elective.

Required Courses (15 credits)

  • SPHU 2500 Principles of Professionalism in Healthcare 
  • SPHU 3010 Foundations of Health Care Systems 
  • SPHU 4260 Organizational Leadership & Management in Public Health
  • MCOM 3200 Management Communication 
  • Choose one: DATA 1010 Introduction to Data - or - DATA 2030 Data Visualization

Elective Course (3 credits)

Choose 1 course from the following list:

  • SPHU 1010 Introduction to Public Health 
  • SPHU 3015 Public Health Program Implementation and Management

Please note:

  • Students are not permitted to share credit hours between minors.
  • Only three credit hours can be shared with the student's major.
  • No study abroad courses may count as elective credit.
