Biography
Nuzulul Kusuma Putri (she/her) is pursuing her Ph.D. in International Health and Sustainable Development. Her research focuses on primary healthcare management, mainly in public health program design and health financing. She is actively studying Indonesia National Health Insurance, one of the world's largest social insurance schemes, where she mostly focuses on the health disparities under health insurance and how it works at the primary care level. She is also interested in the issues of gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI) dimensions of the health system.
In her home country, Indonesia, she is an assistant professor at the Health Policy and Administration Department, Universitas Airlangga. Since 2013, she has been committed to being the Editor-in-chief of the Indonesian Journal of Health Administration. Putri and her colleagues in eastern Indonesia also initiated the Airlangga Centre for Health Policy, an emerging research group communicating health system issues to the general population.
Putri attends Tulane University as a Fulbright scholar. She was previously a research fellow for the WHO-SEARO Region Fellowship Program in 2019, which supported her work in identifying the barriers to implementing gender mainstreaming in public health programs. Her study also found how gender segregation and the glass ceiling have been possible barriers to gender mainstreaming implementation in the health system. Later in 2021, she was selected as a fellow on the ThinkWell Global under the Samya Stumo Memorial Fellowship. She did a project studying risk-based payment for primary health facilities under Indonesia National Health Insurance and empowering private health clinics on risk management.
