The Department of Health Policy and Management expanded its roster this fall with the addition of two new faculty. Neither is a complete stranger to the Tulane family.
Dr. Tyra Mitchell-Williams is a clinical instructor, who has transitioned from a background in physical therapy to broaden her focus to systems and ethical concerns. Her academic interests include healthcare artificial intelligence, health policy, advocacy, leadership, and ethics in healthcare organizations and professional boards. She recently served as the professor of practice in exercise science and kinesiology in the Tulane School of Professional Advancement.
Prior to her academic career, Dr. Mitchell-Williams held pivotal roles in clinical management, notably as rehab program supervisor at Ochsner Therapy and Wellness and director of rehabilitation services at Ochsner Medical Center. She has worked as a clinician, healthcare leader, and administrator in five states and Washington, D.C. Currently, she teaches courses addressing healthcare policy, management, ethics, and leadership at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Dr. Jillian Torres stepped off the graduation stage and into a faculty position. A 2024 graduate from the department’s doc toral program, Torres is now a clinical assistant professor. In addition to her education at Tulane, Torres comes to the department with leadership experience from Northwell Health, Ochsner Health, and the Mayo Clinic. Her academic interests and areas of expertise are around healthcare strategic planning, quality improvement, change management and analytics.
At the Mayo Clinic, Torres served as a strategy consulting manager and management consultant, leading teams in conducting extensive market research and providing strategic recommendations that influenced major healthcare transactions and organizational growth initiatives.
