In fall 2019, HPM celebrated fifty fabulous years and their tremendous rise in the U.S. News rankings (from 22nd to 17th) with a very special weekend of homecoming events.
The keynote of this special weekend took place on Friday, November 1st, 2019, with Dr. Zeke Emanuel to speaking to a full house in the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in the Diboll Auditorium. A question and answer session followed.
Later on Friday, November 1st, alumni gathered at the Wrong Iron on the Greenway, the hottest beer garden in New Orleans, and the next day SPHTM joined the homecoming tailgate festivities on the uptown campus.
The celebrations continued on into the new year. In January 2020, HPM hosted Dr. Alex Billioux, the Assistant Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health. Dr. Billioux discussed Louisiana's Innovative Approach to Addressing Hep C Challenges.
