Biography

Emma Ortega is a doctoral student in the Department of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease and a graduate student researcher with the Health Office for Latin America (HOLA) based in Peru. Emma is a field epidemiologist, with research experience working on infectious disease transmission dynamics and control strategies. Her research interests include vector-borne diseases, outbreak surveillance, and immigrant health. Her current research applies mixed methods to dengue and arbovirus control in the Peruvian Amazon. She also works on projects involving health outcomes of Latino populations in Louisiana. Prior to starting her PhD, Emma worked as an Infectious Disease Epidemiologist with the Louisiana Department of Health.
