Biography

Carolyn Johnson is a behavioral psychologist.  Her research portfolio has focused on school-based health education and health promotion, specifically relating to diet, physical activity, smoking and sexual behaviors; school personnel wellness programs; internet-based intervention for African American women to prevent unwanted teen pregnancy; and, as director of the Tulane Prevention Research Center, she is involved in community-based prevention/reduction of obesity by addressing the physical and social environmental factors that influence diet and physical activity.  Dr. Johnson has participated as co-PI and project director for two NIH-funded multi-site trials, Child and Adolescent Trial for Cardiovascular Health, and Trial of Activity for Adolescent Girls.  She has been PI, co-PI, and investigator on numerous NIH-funded, state-funded and HRSA funded research projects.  She is also the director of the Tulane Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health, a leadership training program for MCH funded by HRSA.
