Biography
Dr. Abdelghani received his master and doctorate degrees from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He then joined the department of global environmental health sciences as a faculty member and has been at Tulane ever since. Dr. Abdelghani has developed curricula for graduate and undergraduate degree and non -degree programs in public health/environmental health sciences. He served as the department chair from 1999-2005 and director of Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine laboratories for 22 years. He has more than 115 publications in the open literature and more than 60 national and international presentations. He serves on the editorial board of five international Journals in the field of global environmental health. He has worked in many countries including Haiti, Turkey, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Taiwan, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Lebanon and others. During June 26- July 3, 2016 he completed a mission in Haiti funded by the Inter-American Development Bank. Dr. Abdelghani’s current teaching, research, and field work focus on global environmental health issues with interest in developing countries. These issues include water quality and quantity, sanitation and food safety with an emphasis on the impact on agricultural chemicals on human health and the environment. He has been responsible for teaching several sections of the school's core courses in environmental health for more than 20 years. He also teaches other courses at the graduate and undergraduate level. In addition, he designed and furnished Tulane University Environmental Health Laboratories. He has trained laboratory technicians on instrument operations including, but not limited to, gas chromatography, inductively coupled plasma, liquid chromatography etc. As part of his responsibility as full professor, Dr. Abdelghani directed these laboratories for more than 22 years. He also assisted in establishing environmental health laboratories and training programs on equipment for testing of environmental samples in at Tulane university, Taiwan, Kazakhstan, Suriname and Turkey. He also worked as the Senior Public Health Officer for ministries of health including Jordan and Abu Dhabi/United Arab Emirates. Responsibilities all public health/environmental health issues including occupational health, biological and chemical contaminants of food, communicable diseases control, control of vectors of disease, air pollution, vaccinations, investigations of outbreaks of diseases, health education and other related responsibilities.
