Online MPH in Epidemiology expands access for working professionals
Demand for skilled epidemiology training continues to rise, and Tulane University’s Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine is meeting the demand by expanding access to its Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology with a fully online option.
The online degree mirrors the in-person program in all critical areas, including curriculum, faculty, and degree requirements.
Beginning in fall 2026, the online MPH degree in epidemiology will provide skilled training for students interested in learning virtually. This format offers greater flexibility to those hoping to become skilled epidemiologists.
“This is a great opportunity for mid-career professionals who are interested in advancing their knowledge and earning a master’s in epidemiology,“ said Dr. Jeanette Gustat, director of the MPH program in epidemiology. “The program is fully online and can be completed part time in three years, with most live classes in the evenings, and it offers enough flexibility that other types of students may be interested as well.”
Much like the on-campus program, the online MPH in Epidemiology is methods-based and highly analytical, teaching students how to apply conceptual methodology to the study of public health. Students learn to relate these methods to problems facing public health, including health disparities, chronic or infectious disease, and environmental, reproductive, molecular, or cancer epidemiology.
Skills gained include how to process, analyze, and effectively report findings from epidemiologic studies.
The online program is designed to be completed part-time in three years, though students have the option of doing the program at an accelerated pace. Coursework combines asynchronous assignments with weekly live classes, providing students access to faculty and peers while also allowing them the flexibility to attend to professional and personal responsibilities.
With both on-campus and online formats available, the Celia Scott Weatherhead School provides multiple pathways for students to pursue epidemiological training and leadership skills.
