Lauren Dunaway, PhD, MPH, RD, LDN

Lauren E. Futrell Dunaway, PhD, MPH, RD, LDN is a Registered Dietitian and Public Health Researcher with public health teaching, research, and evaluation experience. She is an Assistant Professor in the SPHTM Undergraduate Public Health Studies Program, currently working to expand nutrition courses and degree offerings. Before this role, she was a Professor of Practice in the Tulane School of Professional Advancement’s Kinesiology program where she developed robust and interactive undergraduate and graduate online courses.

Ileana De Anda-Duran

Dr. De Anda-Duran is a cardiovascular risk and brain health epidemiologist with a diverse training background. She studied medicine at Universidad Autonoma de Baja, California, in Mexico and became a medical doctor in 2016. She obtained a master’s in Public Health and Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2020. Before joining the Tulane faculty, Dr.

Samuel Kakraba, PhD

Dr. Samuel Kakraba’s research centers chiefly on the development and implementation of efficient computationally-driven pipelines aided by robust data science, statistical, mathematical and biostatistical predictive machine learning algorithms like neural networks, deep learning, support vector machines, k-nearest neighbors, random forests, Naïve Bayes, and others, in R statistical software, Python, SAS, and others, for estimation, prediction, and inferences into complex high-dimensional relationships in many fields like pharmaceutical sciences, public health, among others.

Shalean Collins, PhD, MPH, RD

Shalean Collins is an applied nutritionist and dietitian who uses mixed methods to evaluate the consequences of resource insecurity for vulnerable populations. Her research integrates training in clinical nutrition and public health and uses a biocultural approach to study the interactions between social, behavioral, physiological, and environmental determinants of health.

Johanna Nice, PhD, MPH

Johanna Nice is a social scientist with expertise in designing monitoring and reporting systems for community-based initiatives and conducting international survey data collection and operations research for vulnerable populations. Through over a decade of work with the Highly Vulnerable Children Research Center, she has contributed to numerous quantitative and qualitative impact evaluations, shaping evidence-based programming to support children and families affected by HIV in South Africa.

Mostafijur Rahman, PhD, MS

Mostafijur Rahman, Ph.D., M.S., is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Environmental Health Sciences from New York University School of Medicine and subsequently completed a three-year postdoctoral training at the University of Southern California. His research focuses on the intersection of air pollution, climate change, and human health.

Rustin Reed, PhD, CIH, CSP

Dr. Rustin Reed is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (11378) and Certified Safety Professional (34673) with over 10 years of experience in mining and other industries. He is also an MSHA-Approved Instructor for Part 48 and an Authorized OSHA Trainer for General Industry. Dr. Reed is the Lead Instructor of Bowen EHS’s Online CIH Review Course. He has experience teaching at the secondary, undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels, as well as managing research projects cumulatively valued at over $10 million.

Derek Werthmann, PhD, MPH

Derek Werthmann is an Environmental Epidemiologist with expertise in epidemiology, environmental exposure, and maternal child health. His current research focuses on unraveling the complex interplay between environmental exposures and health outcomes, particularly in populations that have historically had disparate environmental exposures and health outcomes. He is currently assessing the impact of pesticide exposure on the immune response of COVID-19.

Akilah Dulin, PhD

Akilah Dulin is a social scientist with training and expertise in social factors of health, theory, community engaged research methods, qualitative and mixed methods research, measure development and policy advocacy. She examines multilevel risk and multilevel resilience resources associated with health outcomes among populations disproportionately burdened by diseases. She has served as multiple principal investigator (MPI) on three NIH-funded R01 grants, co-investigator on one NIH-funded R01 and principal investigator of two foundation grants.
