About the Office of Global Health
Experience and expertise matter now more than ever
Our Mission
The mission of the Tulane Office of Global Health (OGH) is to foster interdisciplinary, collaborative research opportunities for faculty across Tulane University and to promote global health research training opportunities for Tulane students. Offices are located in the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and in an overseas office in Lima, Peru (HOLA, or the Health Office for Latin America).
In today’s increasingly interdisciplinary global health landscape, research teams are pooling expertise across diverse fields, including human behavior, the built environment, ecology and climate, biomedical engineering, social and cultural systems, clinical tropical medicine, health access, and human rights. As a result, global health is no longer solely the domain of medicine and public health. It has become an important focus area for universities, with clear relevance and opportunities for impact among faculty and students across Tulane University’s schools and disciplines. Additionally, the Office of Global Health has collaborative relationships with international organizations from a variety of countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Suriname, Uganda, and Sierra Leone.
HOW WE SUPPORT GLOBAL HEALTH
For faculty, OGH provides support through:
- Hosting global health networking to bring faculty interested in global health together and formulate working groups able to respond to global health initiatives. Expertise in global health at Tulane spans multiple schools, including Science and Engineering, Social Work, Liberal Arts, Public Health, and Medicine.
- Providing seed money for short-term travel or meetings to facilitate new global health research collaborations or grant applications.
- Sponsoring university-wide presentations on global health topics led by Tulane faculty and invited national and international guest faculty members.
For students, OGH provides support through:
- Administrating and publicizing global health research training opportunities provided by training grants led by Tulane faculty and by a study abroad exchange program with National Taiwan University and a collaborative applied practice experience program with Bwindi Community Hospital, Uganda.
- Providing initial and ongoing review and support for international short courses and international partner sites for applied practice experiences for MPH students.
- Coordianting international MPH student recruitment thru Shorelight International.
- Supporting global health interest groups across the university.
