Hurricane Katrina: A look back at Tulane's downtown campus

Twenty years after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, many scars still remain. Tulane’s downtown campus, including the Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, were also affected. The school and university closed for the semester and member schools from the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health paved the way for students to continue their studies until the university reopened for the spring semester in 2006. This included the inaugural BSPH undergraduate class, who had just started their first year.

The photos below may be difficult to view, especially for those who experienced trauma related to Hurricane Katrina and the structural failures that followed. Please use your discretion before continuing. Your well-being is important—step away if you need to.

Special credit and thanks to the School of Medicine for collecting and sharing these photos, and to all the individuals who elected to share them with Tulane.
