Chi Dola, a graduate of the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, has been named the Assistant Designated Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education at the Tulane School of Medicine.

Dola, MD, MPH began her Tulane University career more than 20 years ago as a student working on a combined degree in medicine and public health. After graduating from the Schools of Medicine and Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Dola remained at Tulane for her residency. She came back to Tulane following a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, and now serves as the Warren and Adolf Jacobs Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Section Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and director of the Obstetrics/Gynecology Residency Program.

Her new title was made public late last week.

“I am honored to be the Assistant Designated Institutional Official for Tulane School of Medicine,” Dola said. “While the school already has great graduate medical education programs, this opportunity allows me to apply best practices in resident education to all the school’s programs, not just my program in Obstetrics/Gynecology.  Graduate medical education continues to grow and change.  I am eager to assist the Graduate Medical Education team to be better prepared for the challenges of tomorrow."

Dola served as the Associate Program Director of Tulane’s OB/GYN residency program and was named Program Director in 2010.  Regarded as a strong advocate for residents and resident education, she has received numerous teaching awards during her tenure at Tulane, including the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award and the National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education by the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology/American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

As Assistant DIO, Dr. Dola is applying her talents to program evaluation and special review processes. The Office of Graduate Medical Education and the Graduate Medical Education Committee are thankful for Dr. Dola’s contributions as they continue working together to improve graduate medical education at Tulane.

“I’m thrilled to add Dr. Dola to the GME leadership team,” said Paul Gladden, MD, Designated Institutional Official for GME. “An intelligent, focused and dedicated program director, Dr. Dola now brings her talent and successful teaching methods to all residents and fellows.”
