Photovoice and Public Health: Engaging Communities in Food and Climate ResearchBy Dr. Manuel Franco

Join us for a compelling public lecture with Dr. Manuel Franco, Ikerbasque Research Professor at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) and Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health. A physician and social epidemiologist, Dr. Franco’s research addresses the social and environmental determinants of health, with a focus on cardiovascular disease, urban environments, and climate adaptation.

Drawing from over a decade of participatory and place-based research Dr. Franco will highlight the use of photovoice and other community-engaged methods to examine how food environments and extreme temperatures shape population health, focusing in Europe (Spain). His work offers timely insights into the growing intersections of climate change, health equity, and food systems—issues of urgent relevance for New Orleans and the Gulf South.

This lecture is open to the public and will be of special interest to those working in public health, climate resilience, food systems, urban planning, and community-based research. The lecture will follow an informal time to network with the speaker (Room 1215).
