Cultivating an Abundant Food System with Research, Policy and Advocacy in New Orleans

Thursday November 13th 11:00 am - 1:30 pm

Room: The Broadside
Description:

Cultivating an Abundant Food System with Research, Policy and Advocacy in New Orleans

In collaboration with Tulane Nutrition, join us for the New Orleans Food Policy Council General Meeting which will feature networking and a panel discussion on the ways researchers, food advocates, and community organizations can build coalition and leverage their unique skills and expertise to innovatively address the complex problems facing our local food system. The problems that have existed within the food system before Hurricane Katrina and subsequent levee failure have in many ways continued or worsened 20 years later. On the heels of the anniversary of the storm and recent municipal elections, New Orleans has new opportunities given its new city-wide leadership to address many of the city’s unique systemic social and environmental problems, including those within the food system. Panelists will share their experience in tackling inequities within the food system, opportunities for greater collaboration across research, community organizing, and advocacy, calls to action for established and emerging food advocates. Lunch will be served!

Open To: Public
Admission: Free
