Climate Change and Health in The Gulf South

Our Commitment

The Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine is dedicated to addressing the impact of climate change on public health in the Gulf South. Climate change and health is one of the school's strategic growth areas for public health. With our community and academic partners, we are committed to developing multifaceted resilience and adaptation strategies that include:

  1. Conducting research to better understand the complex relationships between climate change and health, identify emerging health threats, and inform evidence-based policy.
  2. Co-creating strategies with communities for resilience to climate-related health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups.
  3. Reducing the vector-borne disease risks associated with climate change.
  4. Promoting green infrastructure and climate-smart design to mitigate urban heat, reduce flooding, and improve air quality.
  5. Strengthening preparedness and response systems to manage the public health impacts of climate-related events
