Series aimed at connecting future leaders with current leaders returns

The Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine of Tulane University is proud to announce the return of the popular Dean’s Leaders and Lagniappe Lecture series.

The series welcomes public health leaders from the US and internationally. Dean Thomas LaVeist launched the series last year to initiate discussion on campus about the innovations, ideas, and leadership values of distinguished leaders in public health.

“We have the awesome responsibility to inspire future generations of the public health workforce to continually seek growth and aspire to leadership, whether formally or informally,” LaVeist said. “Through this series we continue to connect these future leaders with current ones, building a bridge to a better tomorrow.”

Hosted in downtown New Orleans, Louisiana (and virtually), the Fall '24 series kicks off Monday, Nov. 18, with alumnus Dr. Paulin Basinga, Africa director at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The conversation will run from 12:00pm to 1:00pm in the Diboll Gallery, with light refreshments to follow.

The series will resume with its combined emphasis on both arts and public health programming in the adjacent Diboll Gallery, with exhibitions from local artists rotating as the series progresses. Each lecture will serve as a showcase for some New Orleans lagniappe, defined as “something given as a bonus or extra gift.”

All discussions will be available for viewing both online and in person. Interested attendees can RSVP (for in-person or via Zoom) or view the full calendar at this website.
