In sadness and outrage
We stand with our friends and colleagues in expressing shock and outrage at the terrible violence that occurred in Georgia on Tuesday, killing eight people, six of them Asian Americans. Xenophobic violence has been on the rise in the U.S. and clearly demonstrates the work that needs to be done to alleviate racism and intolerance in this country.
At the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, we pledge our support to all those in our community who are experiencing fear and sadness as a result of these heinous acts.
President Fitts shared earlier that the university is providing space in the Carolyn Barber Pierre Center for Intercultural Life and in other locations for those who need it. I would also urge our students to reach out to the Office of Student Experience, and for our community to use resources like the Employee Assistance Program and the Student Counseling Center.
