Develop the confidence to efficiently communicate without judgement physical punishment’s harmful effects to parents and caretakers from diverse backgrounds.

Topics include:

- The historical roots and myths about corporal punishment

- How race and cultural values shape parental attitudes and beliefs about physical punishment

- The latest research on corporal punishment and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

- Talking points about healthy alternatives

- How to implement a No-Hit Zone in your office

 

This workshop’s co-leaders include an abuse survivor and former foster youth turned award-winning journalist and child advocate and a former child abuse prosecutor and child advocacy center director turned prevention specialist. They will support youth-serving practitioners in gaining the tools to raise parents’ awareness about the harms of hitting and the benefits of alternative discipline strategies.
