Biography

Jeffrey M. Elder, MD serves as the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Emergency Management at LCMC Health, an 8-facility hospital system which merged with Tulane Hospital in the greater New Orleans area and home to the only Level Trauma Center in South Louisiana. Dr. Elder is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Section of Emergency Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, where he serves as the Co-Director of the Division of EMS and Disaster Medicine, and he is also an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Surgery at Tulane School of Medicine. He also serves as EMS Medical Director for LCMC Health and multiple local fire departments.  

Dr. Elder is a member of the board of directors for the National Registry of EMTs and previously served as the Director and Medical Director of New Orleans EMS. He has also served as Medical Director for the New Orleans Fire Department and Chief Medical Officer for the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. While Director of the New Orleans EMS, Dr. Elder also served as Interim Director of the New Orleans Health Department in 2012. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine with subspecialty board certification in Emergency Medical Services by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
