Our multi-disciplinary research will include diverse disciplines and approaches, e.g., biochemistry, biostatistics, bioinformatics, chemistry, entomology, epidemiology, immunology, mathematical modeling, microbiology, molecular biology, parasitology, and structural biology.
By no means a comprehensive list, the following few areas are an indication of the breadth and diversity of research projects representing collective expertise of the faculty and collective resources. All the research projects rely heavily on collaborative and multi-disciplinary approaches and interactions among various faculty members bringing complementary expertise.
- Identification of risk factors for VBID transmission and outbreaks including malaria, dengue, WNV, Zika, and Chagas disease, among others.
- Understanding the biological principles of VBID control, including vector ecology and vector biology.
- Novel approaches for vaccine development, vaccine formulations and delivery, and evaluation using novel animal models.
- Novel approaches for investigating molecular mechanisms of the action of drugs, and mechanisms of resistance.
- Identification of drug targets, and drug development and delivery using nanoparticle formulations.
- Mechanisms of immunopathogenesis of VBIDs.
- Epidemiology of VBIDs, diagnosis and prioritization of different control approaches
