Tom Augustson named Assistant Dean for Operations and Chief of Staff
Dr. Thomas A. LaVeist, dean of the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, announced this week that Tom Augustson has been promoted to assistant dean for operations and chief of staff for the Dean’s Office.
“Tom has been a cornerstone of our team, expertly managing faculty affairs and operations in the Dean’s Office for the past 14 years,” said LaVeist in his announcement. “His unwavering leadership and guidance have been instrumental in navigating challenges and shepherding projects important to the progress of the school. From emergency planning and faculty hiring to significant endeavors like the Charity redevelopment planning, Tom has showcased remarkable versatility and dedication.”
In 2023 Augustson was recognized for his outstanding contributions with the President’s Staff Excellence award by Tulane University President Mike Fitts. Augustson earned his Bachelor of Science in business administration from the California State University in Chico, Ca., and his MBA from Tulane.
Augustson’s new role will be, serving as a confidante and strategic advisor to the dean as well as providing leadership and operational oversight to the Dean’s Office to effectively meet the school's goals and mission. His expertise will be utilized to manage large-scale projects and facilitate seamless communication and coordination to execute the school’s strategic initiatives.
