Suzanna Chase named assistant dean for enrollment management

Suzanna Chase will join the staff of the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in mid-January as the school’s first assistant dean for enrollment management.

Chase comes to Tulane from the Oregon State University College of Public Health and Human Sciences where she had directed graduate student recruitment and admissions for six years. She previously worked for Oregon State’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Harvard Medical School.

“I was impressed with Suzanna’s record of success at Oregon, where she was the first in her role and designed and implemented the college’s admissions process from the ground up,” said Dean Thomas LaVeist. “In this role she designed and implemented innovative strategies that were successful in recruiting underrepresented students to the college. She was also part of a team that created a pathway program for international students. Her efforts have increased Oregon’s visibility on the national stage, demonstrating just the kind of passion and enthusiasm for public health admissions we were looking for."

Chase’s primary goal is “to create an Office of Enrollment Management with policies and procedures that are streamlined, efficient, and straightforward, from both the student perspective as well as internally,” she says. “I want to demystify the admissions process for students, providing a welcoming and easy-to-navigate experience during which applicants feel supported throughout the entire process, from when they first start researching graduate programs and make that initial contact with us, all the way through to orientation.”

Chase earned her bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and her master’s degree in higher education and enrollment management from Bay Path University. She is currently serving her second elected term on the ASPPH SOPHAS Recruitment Advisory Council.

While at Oregon, she’s been recognized with the Professional Faculty Excellence Award and also with the Student Learning and Success Teamwork Award. She has represented her institution with Oregon Women in Higher Education and the National Association for Graduate Enrollment Management.
