About the DrPH in Leadership in Social and Behavioral Sciences
The DrPH in Leadership in Social and Behavioral Sciences is an advanced professional degree for public health practitioners with three or more years of field experience who want to become effective leaders and advocates for health equity. The program is built for working professionals: courses combine case studies, discussions, and real-world problem-solving, with students able to continue full-time employment throughout.
Coursework covers foundational and advanced training in leadership, health equity, program evaluation, advocacy, community engagement, and health communication, all grounded in social and behavioral science theory. Students complete an applied practice experience and an integrative learning experience and defense.
Students who complete this specialization will:
- Evaluate social and behavioral health theories and frameworks that inform new interventions advancing health equity
- Apply health equity theories and frameworks to policies, programs, and interventions
- Design a public health needs assessment using quantitative methods, stakeholder engagement, and attention to social determinants of health
- Develop implementation plans for strategies and interventions centered on individuals, communities, and populations
- Write a grant proposal addressing a social or behavioral public health issue
