Ezekiel Emanuel to headline Homecoming Weekend for SPHTM

Tulane University will celebrate Homecoming the weekend of November 1st. This year the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine will participate in Homecoming and honor of the Department of Health Policy and Management’s 50th anniversary with a special presentation by Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel.

From January 2009 to January 2011, Emanuel was a special advisor for health policy to the White House Office of Management and Budget and one of the most prominent voices advising the White House about health care. He had a significant impact on federal health care budgets and the Affordable Care Act.

Today, Emanuel is the vice provost for global initiatives, the Diane v.S. Levy and Robert M. Levy University Professor, and the chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a special advisor to the director general of the World Health Organization and one of the leading practitioners shaping the future of health care.

On November 1st at 1pm, in the school’s Diboll Auditorium, Emanuel will discuss “Megatrends in Health Care.” American health care is changing more rapidly now than it has in decades. What will our health care system look like five or 10 years from now and how will it impact us? Emanuel will discuss the effects of health reform on our current system and then make specific, data-driven predictions about the future of American health care.
All alumni, students, staff, and faculty are welcome to attend the lecture and, later that day, an alumni reception at Wrong Iron on the Greenway, the hottest new beer garden in New Orleans.

The school will also host a tailgate tent on Saturday, November 2nd, on the uptown campus.

RSVPs for the presentation and the reception are encouraged but not required.
