Biography

Sydney is a public health professional with over 8 years of experience in the field, both domestically and abroad. Originally from Oklahoma, she has relocated across the country several times to pursue higher education—first to California to pursue her Bachelor of Science at Pepperdine University, and then to Louisiana to obtain her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology at Tulane University SPHTM. Sydney’s work has taken her across the globe to work with a variety of stakeholders, from working frontline in the New Orleans community during the COVID-19 pandemic, to meeting with high-level policy and decision-makers in Nairobi as a public health consultant.

Sydney is currently a doctoral student in the Department of International Health and Sustainable Development at Tulane University SPHTM, as well as an independent public health consultant. At Tulane, Sydney is involved with various student organizations and works as both a research and teaching assistant in the department. She recently had one of her peer-reviewed articles selected as “Best Paper” in 2021 by the publishing journal, and was inducted into the Delta Omega Honorary Society Tulane Chapter in 2022.

Sydney’s major research interests are in the field of international family planning and sexual and reproductive health. Specifically, she is interested in exploring trends in family planning for the youth and adolescent population in sub-Saharan Africa, and identifying key areas of intervention to reach these individuals. She is also interested in abortion access globally, and continues to operate under a reproductive justice framework within her research to address the persistent health disparities in a post-Roe world. She has presented her research at various national and international conferences over the years. Eventually, Sydney would like to continue her global health career in a manner that allows her to combine her love for both research and teaching.
