Biography
Amy Phou (she/her) is a doctoral student in the Department of International Health and Sustainable Development at Tulane University. Her research interests focus on the health impacts of forced migration among refugee and immigrant communities.
Before beginning her doctoral studies, Amy earned her Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Geisinger College of Health Sciences and her Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and International Studies from Oregon State University. Her professional background spans from clinical work as a nursing assistant, biomedical lab settings in HIV/AIDs research, to her current role as a Medical Research Specialist at the Tulane Center for Airborne Infection and Transmission Science (TUCAiTS), a position she will continue to hold during her doctoral training.
Outside of academics, Amy enjoys reading, exploring New Orleans’ vibrant food scene, and spending time with her husky/shepherd mix, Riko.
