Why did you choose to attend Tulane?
I completed my undergraduate degree in Public Health at Tulane and had such a positive experience with the faculty, coursework, and overall learning environment that I chose to continue here for graduate school. The Disaster Management program is particularly unique and essential, especially given Tulane's location in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast's vulnerability to climate change and disasters.
What's your dream job?
In the future, I hope to work for a state or local health department, the CDC, FEMA, or or a humanitarian organization focused on emergency preparedness, crisis communication, and infectious disease response. I am also interested in pursuing research on the impacts of repeated disaster exposure, the relationship between disasters and surges in violence, and the public health effects of climate-related displacement.
What advice would you give someone thinking about getting a degree in public health?
I would encourage entering public health with an open mind and following the path that feels right for you. There are so many different pathways into public health, which is part of what makes the field so special and exciting. It's okay to not know exactly what you want to do after completing your degree. Public health is such an impactful and dynamic area of work that can lead to a wide range of career opportunities.
Any hobbies, interests, etc. outside of public health?
Live music, gardening, reading, crafts, travel, thrifting
What is the best thing about being a student at Tulane thus far?
I love getting to know other students and learning about the amazing work they are involved in. Tulane offers many opportunities that can enhance your academic experience. I work for Tulane's Office of Emergency Preparedness & Response and really appreciate the opportunity to apply what I've learned in the classroom to real-world public health practice.
