Why did you choose to attend Tulane?

As a Fulbright scholar from Egypt, choosing the Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine was an easy decision. As the first and oldest school of public health in the United States, it has a long-standing and proven history of advancing public health globally, particularly in the areas of tropical and infectious diseases. I knew that Tulane would provide me with exceptional experiences and opportunities to thrive in this field.

Why are you interested in volunteering as a student ambassador?

I understand the challenges and stress that upcoming graduate students face, especially international students who have to move to a different city or country while also navigating demanding courses. I would love to share my experiences with them and help make their transition as smooth as possible. As I always say, we must pay it forward. I’ve had people who helped me along the way, and I would love to do the same for others.

What's your dream job?

I cannot specify my exact dream job yet, but I know that I want to use my experiences, education, and all the opportunities I’ve had at Tulane to make an impact in public health. I hope to work in a role where I can combine research to deepen our understanding of infectious agents with designing and implementing public health programs for their prevention and control. So, one day I can help create a world that is not only adequately prepared for the next pandemic, but also able to prevent it from happening at all.

What advice would you give someone thinking about getting a degree in public health?

Do not hesitate to ask for help. One of the strongest aspects of WSPH is the people, from professors and staff to students. Everyone is willing to help and offer guidance. Also, try to take advantage of all the opportunities at the school, from student activities to research opportunities. Every opportunity will help you learn and grow.

Any hobbies, interests, etc. outside of public health?

Reading, travelling, cooking, and playing with my cats.

What is the best thing about being a student at Tulane thus far?

The people and the accepting and open community that the school offers.
