Timeline to New Criteria

CEPH Timeline for the 2016 Criteria

December 1, 2016 – Official notification by CEPH of new 2016 criteria, mandating demonstration of compliance with the new criteria by December 31, 2018.

December 8, 2017 – SPHTM to submit ASPPH and CEPH annual reports.

January 9, 2018 – SPHTM must submit compliance report on how the school will comply with new 2016 CEPH criteria. CEPH provided schools two options:

  • Option A – Full compliance by Jan 9, 2018. (SPHTM is not taking this option.)
  • Option B – Submit a report by January 9, 2018 with a plan for coming into compliance. New courses must be designed and approved with syllabi. Implementation must be underway by Fall 2018.

January 9, 2019 – SPHTM must submit compliance report to CEPH with new foundation courses implemented.

SPHTM Timeline to achieve all CEPH benchmarks

January, 2017 – Review CEPH options for compliance. Executive faculty agreed on Option B since the school was currently undergoing accreditation under old


January and April, 2017 – New criteria announced at General Faculty meetings.

August 22, 2017 – Overview of new criteria presented at Welcome Back workshop.

Stage 1: Conceptual Framework and Course Structure with required competencies

August, 2017 – Stage 1-Foundational Curriculum Task Force formed.

September 22, 2017 – Stage 1 Task Force begins to meet weekly to develop conceptual framework and outline of courses.

September 26, 2017 – Process for developing new foundational courses at presented at Faculty Retreat.

October 31, 2017 – Executive Faculty updated on progress for foundational courses framework and provide input.

November 1-30, 2017 – Task Force members update departments and seek input on foundational courses framework.

November 6, 2017 – Foundational course framework presented to Curriculum Committee for input and comment.

November 15, 2017 – Students and faculty updated on curriculum progress.

November 14, 2017 – Students and faculty updated about upcoming foundational course changes via email.

November 28, 2017 – Executive Faculty updated on progress toward new foundational curriculum.

November 28, 2017 – Dean’s Hour for students to focus on foundational curriculum.

December 11, 2017 – Faculty Town Hall to discuss foundational curriculum, 12:00pm, Room 1201.

December 15, 2017 – Foundational course outline developed for general review and comment.

January 9, 2018 – SPHTM to submit compliant plan to CEPH

Stage 2 – Course Design

January – February, 2018 – Foundational curriculum framework submitted to Curriculum Committee for initial offering.

January, 2018 – State 2 Course Development workgroups to develop course content, exercises, drills, scenarios, and case studies with outcome measures

January-May, 2018 – Faculty teams will develop Foundational Overview, Bios, Epid courses.

January-September, 2018 – Faculty teams will develop Planning/Management and Policy courses.

Spring 2018 – Faculty workshops on teaching methods for new foundations courses.

Stage 3 - Implementation

Fall, 2018 – Launch first three courses: Overview, Biostatistics, Epidemiology,

Spring, 2019– Launch next two courses.
