Windows 7 is reaching its End-of-life, and Microsoft will no longer provide security updates after January 2020. Departments will need to plan to upgrade to Windows 10 or replace machines that cannot be upgraded.
To determine whether a machine can be upgraded to Windows 10, visit the following website. Please reference only Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1709):
DEVICES THAT DO NOT REQUIRE INTERNET ACCESS
Just as we eliminated devices running Windows XP from the Tulane network, computers running Windows 7 after January 2020 will no longer have access. Computers running Windows 7 that are used to run microscopes, analyzers or other test systems may continue to use this operating system as long as internet access is not required. If you are responsible for such a machine, contact GRIT so that we may begin the process of isolating this machine from the network.
Many departments will need to include the cost of replacement machines in the budget cycle, so please share this information with your customers as soon as possible.
Look for further updates, and please direct any questions to GRIT at email@example.com.
