Before a packed Dixon Hall, Sherman James, the Susan B. King Professor of Public Policy at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, delivered the commencement address to Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine graduates last week.

Student Speaker Explores a "Communal Understanding of Public Health"

Cien Kielty-Lucas delivered the student address at the SPHTM Diploma Ceremony, describing his experience as a Master's International student who "went astray," as he calls it.

Although Kielty-Lucas shared his own story, he showed how all of the graduates present had changed and were changed by their experiences in New Orleans and at Tulane's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.

An international health and development student, Kielty-Lucas received his master of public health at the ceremony. He was selected as the student speaker in a blind submission process judged by a panel of faculty and staff.
