Core Courses

Students are required to complete a total of five core courses (15 total credit hours) representing biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, management, and behavioral science.

Core courses are sometimes available as online classes, but not every core is offered online every semester. Students register for and get information about online courses from the department offering the course. Students should verify the exam schedule and in-class requirements for online core courses with the department offering the course: often, core courses require that students attend one or more classes in person for lectures or exams.

To determine which sections are online options, check the section number on the registrar's homepage: online courses are listed as section 40 (e.g., ENHS 603-40).

Core course waivers
Students who believe they have completed coursework equivalent to that taught in a core course may request a course waiver. Students must submit a Core Course Waiver Form (the form is available in SPHTM Office of Admissions and Student Affairs or online at the “Admissions” link at www.sph.tulane.edu) and receive approval. See the FAQ section for more details about the waiver process.
