Catherine Taylor’s work is focused on the primary prevention of family violence, particularly child physical abuse, corporal punishment, and intimate partner violence. Her scholarship is designed to be translated and disseminated to disrupt the intergenerational cycle of violence as well as reduce childhood trauma and resulting health disparities. Taylor‘s public health approach to violence prevention targets population-level, social norms’ change (e.g., education of professionals and universal parenting education). Her research methodologies have ranged from randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental designs to large epidemiologic studies, surveys, and focus groups. She has taught “Violence as a Public Health Problem” (GCHB 6500) and “Introduction to Monitoring and Evaluation” (GCHB 6120). She also is co-teaching SPHU 3660 “Adverse Childhood Experiences,” an interdisciplinary 360 course for undergraduates.
