I am an associate professor in the maternal and child health program. My disciplinary lenses are developmental science, social work, maternal and child health, and social epidemiology. My areas of expertise are adolescent and young adult (AYA) development, AYA substance use, AYA partner violence, AYA sexual behavior, and social epidemiology. Current projects include a quantitative analysis of PSID data to investigate contextual influences on developmental trajectories of binge alcohol use in the transition to young adulthood; a qualitative project examining the reasons for heroin use initiation among New Orleans youth; and an RCT of an online teen pregnancy prevention program targeted to 18-19 year old African American young women in New Orleans. I teach a masters-level course in GCHB 6470 Adolescent Health and a doctoral-level course in GCHB 8750 Social Determinants of Health.
